Priest (2010)
Directed: Scott Stewart
Written: Cory Goodman
Based on Graphic Novel series by Min-Woo Hyung
With Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Maggie Q
Vampires as monsters, The Church as monsters, Priest as highly trained warriors. Vampires are great, I loved the hive guards really scary, and you could smell the bad breath. No great story here, plenty of good Graphic novel, video game violence. The good guys prevail. Well yea like duh….
Suggested only if you like that sort of thing.
Near Dark (1987)
Directed: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)
With Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson, Jenny Wright
A young man reluctantly joins a travelling "family" of evil vampires, when the girl he'd tried to seduce is part of that group. A great American vampire/Western story. Vampires that live in the modern world. Worth a watch.
Thinking about Bill Paxton and the church as monsters made me think of the evil in men brought on by The church.
Frailty (2001)
Directed: Bill Paxton
Written: Brent Hanley
With Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey, Powers Booth
A man confesses to an FBI agent his family's story of how his religious fanatic father goes on a killing spree with his two young sons after being instructed by God. His visions lead to a series of murders to destroy supposed "demons." A different type of fear, worth it, a very powerful film you can’t look away from this disturbing story. Direction tells an old story in a fresh way. Acting from all involved of a high quality even the young son.
